Recession Webinar with Mark Hovind I got a lot of positive comments about this 63 minute webinar here it is in its entirety. (there is link in the bottom right corner of the image below, with 4 arrows if you click on that you can see this in full-screen) I did get one negative comment, about how we were just focusing on the negative.   I understand the email I got, but hope that after you watch this you can see the opportunities you can focus on. Again, huge thanks to Mark for sharing his stuff with us!   Well do something like this again any suggestions for topics? An Effective Format For Your Writing Workshop Resume

An Effective Format For Your Writing Workshop ResumeIf you have ever attended a writing workshop, then you know that they are the perfect place to hone your skills at writing. It's an environment where the purpose of the workshop is to teach you how to write, and how to use different styles, formats, and formats in order to create better writing. Even if you are not a writer, this kind of experience is still an advantage for anyone who wants to develop their skills. There are some things that the writing workshop must include in order to ensure that the final product is top-notch. A good workshop will include a format that makes the format of the writing a priority. This means that you will not have to put too much thought into your resume because it is already formatted in such a way that it makes sense. For example, the format should always be chronological or in order of occurrence, which makes sense because it is often a time-honored way of presenting information.Another important aspect of a workshop for your resume is that it should cover the material that is being discussed. The most successful workshops use templates that cover all the information that is being discussed in each of the classes. In order to be effective, your resume must not only cover the material discussed in the class, but should also demonstrate that you are ready to do the job for hire that is being asked of you. Sometimes, the teaching staffs of these types of workshops leave out information in order to make the curriculum more interactive. Most writing workshops also go over the topics of business and education section of the resume. They help you think about how to focus on those sections in order to create the best resume possible. Even if you think that you are the best candidate for a particular position, there may be another qualified candidate who has already been offered the job. In this case, a written statement of reasons and strengths will make the difference between you a nd the other candidate.Every future employer of yours will want to know why you want the job. When the person reading your resume sees a list of your qualifications, they will want to know why you were selected over the other candidates. You can explain the reasons why you were chosen by using a format that is unique to your situation. You can add in a description of the process that led to you being chosen over the other candidates, or you can write about what attracted you to the position. Before you attend a writing workshop, it is important to check on the facilitator or the materials that will be used during the workshop. This includes the class curriculum as well as what material the group will use during the session. If the writing workshop is going to have a certain format, then you want to make sure that the material is as well. The seminar itself should never be hindered by one or two people, and it's important that everyone feels comfortable and is learning together. When y ou attend a writing workshop, you want to be comfortable with the class curriculum. One of the biggest criticisms of writing workshops is that they don't go into much detail with new writers. Having to constantly question yourself about what you are writing makes it difficult to write at a high level, and it is more comfortable to keep the information vague until the meeting is completed. When you attend a writing workshop, you want to know how to format your resume so that it is effectively formatted. You also want to know about the other aspects of a writing workshop, and you should check on what each instructor is teaching in order to learn the best way to prepare for the seminar. Make sure that you are working with someone who can help you move your skills in a direction that you haven't moved before, and can help you find the best possible direction to take in order to be successful.

How to Get Past Online Job Applications Tracking Systems - Career Sidekick

How to Get Past Online Job Applications Tracking Systems - Career Sidekick How to Get Past Online Job Applications Tracking Systems Applying for Jobs / https://www.edenscott.com/blog If youre applying for jobs online, its crucial to know how to get past online job application systems. If you dont know how to beat the applicant tracking system, you wont be getting the interview! So in this article, Im going to walk you through EVERYTHING you need to know about getting past online job application systems / ATS (applicant tracking systems) that employers are using to filter applicants. How to Get Past Online Job ApplicationsSo you’re at your laptopbrowsing job sites and you find a job that’s really appealing. Not necessarily for the pay or because they’re close to where you live, but because they sound like a serious company that goes the extra mile for their customers and employees. The more you read, the more you like them and wish you were a part of their team. And then you reach the “Apply for this job” button with “957 Applicants” proudly written beneath. Oh, and now it’s 962.You could mutter “Bummer” and move on , apply anyway but keep your expectations on the low side, or you could follow these steps to make your application unique and noticeable:Use Simple Resume FormattingIf youre creating a resume in Microsoft Word, use simple formatting and headers. Bold, italic, and bullet points are all great (as long as theyre done in moderation). However, where I see job seekers run into trouble with online job applications is using tables, columns, and other complicated formatting. Also, many of the newer resume templates for sale online (or available for free) feature a two-column layout. They have a main column and a thin side column for your contact info and other details. These designs look great, but some applicant tracking systems and online applications cant read this smaller column. So while it may look sleek, its not helping you get past automated job application systems.Keep your resume simple with one column if youre concerned about how to beat applicant tracking systems.Heres a full artic le if you want more info on how to format a resume.Tailor Your Resume for the Job PostingDo not, under any circumstances, use your standard resume for a job that you really want. Not only do recruiters and hiring managers have an eye for these things, but its also important for beating the applicant tracking systems employers use.So research the company and the job you’re applying for and use the information (mainly from the job description) to give your resume a boost.Put the most relevant info near the top. Consider adding more pieces that are relevant to the specific job youre applying for (like more bullets, more skills, etc.)And also consider removing some irrelevant content. Sometimes less is more on your resume. If something isnt related to the job you applied for, its just burying the more relevant info thatll actually help you get hired. And thats not going to help you get hired or get past online applications. If you arent sure how to tailor your resume for a job, this ar ticle will walk you through it step by step.Keep Your Fonts SimpleWeve heard conflicting reports on whether or not online applications systems can read most fonts, or only just a few. While its likely they can read most fonts, its best to play it safe and choose a font thats extremely common. This can be Helvetica, Georgia, Calibri or Arial.Avoid Times New Roman; it will make your resume look dated and old.Include KeywordsPart of why I recommend tailoring your resume (mentioned above) to get past online application systems is it helps you figure out what keywords to put on your resume.Virtually every ATS/application system scans your resume for keywords from the job description, especially hard skills (like Customer Service, Web Design, Digital Marketing).Dont overdo it. You should always write your resume for a human reader first and foremost, because thats who makes the final decision on whether to interview you.But including some keywords from the job description is the single best way to get past the online job application systems employers use to filter resumes. And once you get to a human reader, itll still help you! The amount of employers that use “Ctrl + F” to quickly go through hundreds of applications is the reason why using keywords should be your top priority.Use Long and Short Variations of KeywordsUse both long and short variations of keywords on your resume when possible. For example, MBA / Master of Business Administration. You never know which keyword the employer programmed into their online application system, so if you have an opportunity to vary how youre saying it, thatll boost your odds of getting through to a human readerUse a Chronological Resume FormatThis is the only resume format I recommend when it comes to impressing a human reader, too. As a recruiter, I NEVER liked seeing a functional resume or anything that hides the order of jobs you held, and what tasks you performed in each job.Employers and recruiters want to see a list of past jobs, dates, and bullets for what you did and learned in each job!And this is also the best resume format to beat the applicant tracking system.Dont Put Any Important Info into a Resume Header or FooterIf you want to put something small in the header or footer of your resume for styling reasons, go ahead, but dont count on an applicant tracking system picking it up or reading it. So nothing you put in a header or footer of your resume will help you get past the ATS.I recommend not using a header or footer at all when creating your resume in Word. Just use the main section of the document. However, if you do want to use a header or footer for some reason, just keep this tip in mind.Use Standard Headers for Your Resume SectionsDont get fancy when it comes to the headers before each section of your resume.Keep it simple with names like Work Experience, Skills, etc. This is the best way to make sure you dont confuse the applicant tracking system and have it miss one of the key sectio ns that might have gotten you the interview! If you want help with this, heres a full article on resume sections and titles. After the Online Application: Preparing for the InterviewThat should be more than enough to get you through even the toughest online job application systems and land you the interview. However, the interview is critical, so make sure youre ready. Here are a few interview tips to help.First, don’t panic, don’t fret about it and get plenty of sleep the night before. If you are prone to stressing out, think about what makes you who you are and what you appreciate about yourself. This can actually be a good chance to think about the most difficult question employers like to torment their interviewers with â€" what’s your greatest weakness? You might think there’s no right answer to this and they practically already rejected you if asked that, but it’s actually not at all true.Don’t try to memorize full answers to questions they might ask. Instead, write d own a few pieces of information that you are keen on mentioning and try to fit them in as the interview progresses. This will make your answers appear spontaneous. Also, prepare a stunning elevator pitch to catch their attention right off the bat.If you read the steps above, you now know how to get past online job applications, and youll be ready to turn your interviews into job offers, too. While nobody gets a response from 100% of their online applications or turns every interview into an offer, you now know how to boost your odds and give yourself the best possible chance of success.

Personal Branding Interview Gretchen Rubin - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Interview Gretchen Rubin - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke to Gretchen Rubin, who is the author of the popular blog, The Happiness Project and the forthcoming author of the book by the same title.   Ive spoken to Gretchen before, but this time I wanted to focus more on her book and some new ideas she has for how to be happier.   In this interview, she tells us how she got her book deal and how she got the original idea for it, different ways to find true happiness, how to find your passion and more. How did you get the idea for your book? What do you think sealed the publishing deal? The idea for the happiness project hit me out of the blue, as I was riding a city bus on a rainy day. “What do I want from life, anyway?” I thought. “Well, I want to be happy.” But I realized I didn’t spend any time thinking about what happiness was, and whether I could be happier, or even whether I was happy. At that moment, I decided to spend a year doing a happiness project. I didn’t get a book contract until I’d finished my year-long experiment. I’m not sure what sealed the deal. I think the idea of spending a year trying to do all the things you know you SHOULD do, to be happier, really appeals to people. It’s a subject with a wide audience. From your experience just getting on national TV, how do you recommend people get those types of opportunities and capitalize on them? Writing a blog is a great way to get yourself out there and associated with a topic. If no one knows you’re an expert, then no one will call you.   Also, try to expand your networks of people. The more people you know, the more people who can say, “Wait, I know someone who has written a lot on that subject.” This fall, what three things can people do to be more happy? Get more sleep! It’s easy to adjust to being chronically sleep-deprived, but sleep is extremely important to health and happiness. It’s hard to turn out the light, because for many of us, the nighttime is our leisure time, but sleep is very, very important. Join or start a group. This is a way to see friends, make friends, spend time on an activity or a subject that interests you. You can meet to talk about fly-fishing, to watch Gossip Girls, to discuss literature, to experiment with desserts….it doesn’t really matter. But I’ve been astonished by the happiness I’ve gained from joining or starting groups. Act the way you want to feel. If you feel annoyed, act thoughtful. If you feel shy, act friendly. It really works. 80% of people arent passionate about their work. What causes this? Being passionate about your work requires mindful decision-making. You have to know what would make you happy and go after it. Often, with work, people make safe choices, or choices that please other people, or choices that allow them to avoid facing difficult truths or risking failure. Take the time and energy to examine what you really want to do, then take the steps to try to pursue it. This can be a very difficult, uncomfortable process, but it pays off in the end. You write for Huffington Post and Slate in addition to your blog. Why is it important to build your brand elsewhere? Someone told me, “Ubiquity is the new exclusivity,” and I absolutely believe that. You never know where people are going to go on the internet, so you want people to be able to find you in lots of places. - Gretchen Rubin is the forthcoming author of The Happiness Project (Harper, December 29) a writer working on The Happiness Projectâ€"an account of the year she spent test-driving every conceivable principle about how to be happy, from the wisdom of the ages to current scientific studies, from Aristotle to Ben Franklin to Martin Seligman. On her Happiness Project blog, she reports her daily adventures on her way to becoming happier. Rubin is a graduate of Yale Law School and was editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal. She was clerking for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor when she had the epiphany that she really wanted to be a writer. Her bestselling Forty Ways to Look at Winston Churchill and Forty Ways to Look at JFK are succinct, provocative biographies.

Should You Put Address on Resume?

Should You Put Address on Resume?Should you put address on resume? Many people ask this question to themselves and this is because they don't know what kind of job you want and they are worried about how your employer might perceive it. But the answer to this question is yes, because it's a simple yet very important step that you should do in order to promote your name.In this day and age, job seekers should definitely be aware of this fact, because it's possible for them to meet someone from their organization through the internet or in any other manner. This person will probably contact you through email or a phone call, and if you haven't listed your address on your resume, it's not really worth the time that you will have spent to do so.In addition, addressing this matter is also important for the many reasons that address does actually matter. First, you might be surprised that addressing this on your resume will allow you to get an interview with that certain company, if not th e first interview. Not only will this make it possible for you to be taken seriously in an interview, but this is also important in providing another reason why your resume will get you the interview. By having your name and address on your resume, you will let the employer know who you are and where you live, which makes it possible for them to come up with an idea on who you are and how you can be of service to them. The reason why addressing this on your resume should be done is that you have to remember that having your full name and address at all times is really important. You may think that your last name is the most important, but it's really important that you mention it because you might have a chance of meeting someone with the same name as you.It can happen that you will meet someone from a certain area where you live, but it does mean that you need to tell them your full name and address every time. The only thing that you need to do is to mention it when you meet someone in a bar, a restaurant, or an elevator because it is really important that you tell them your full name and then see how they respond. The reason why the address should be mentioned is that it can tell someone who you are, what you do, and what you represent. It can also give someone an idea about where you live, how long you've been working there, and what kinds of jobs you've done in the past.Do you think it's the right thing to put address on resume? Of course it is!

5 Reasons an Online Education Beats a Traditional One CareerMetis.com

5 Reasons an Online Education Beats a Traditional One â€" CareerMetis.com You might think going to an expensive out-of-state college is the absolute best choice for your future â€" but that isn’t always the case. While an expensive traditional college education can get you noticed â€" it isn’t the right choice for everyone.More and more people are choosing to study online as a great alternative and a real way to get a good education. We’re going to look at five different ways studying for a degree online could be the best choice for you.1) It’s cheaperevalevalLet’s face it â€" going to college can be expensive. It’s often one of the biggest expenses in a young adult’s life and it’s something many students keep paying off for years to come. For some people, a college education is so prohibitively expensive that it prices them out of being able to attend. And it’s not just tuition fees that cost a lot, either â€" moving to study can cost a lot as well. That’s where an online education really comes into its own. Quite simply, it’s much mu ch cheaper than a traditional college. This gives many more people the opportunity to study than previously had the chance.2) You can study anywhereIf you can’t move out or if college is simply too far away â€" an online course could be great for you. It gives you the flexibility to study wherever you have a computer and can allow a much greater degree of flexibility when compared to a traditional college education. You might live in an area where moving away simply isn’t possible, and that’s a great reason to choose an online degree instead.3) It fits your scheduleOne of the great things about studying online is how flexible it is. For those with other commitments, attending classes that are always at a particular time can be difficult â€" you don’t need to worry about that when studying online as you can go at your own pace and study exactly when it’s convenient for you.The flexibility of online study means it’s good for people who have other commitments like family or work â€" but it also means you can go at your own pace. You don’t have to complete everything in one semester or year like at a traditional college, so you really can fit it around what works best for you.4) You can study specific or unique subjectsIf you pick your college before you really decide what you want to study â€" you might find you can’t choose exactly what you want. Many students find that they want to specialize in specific areas and that might not be possible at their current university. With an online education, you can shop around before picking your college and make sure your specific subject is covered.eval5) Online learning keeps up with changesevalMany traditional courses in established universities find change hard to accept. Some of them will still be using outdated methods and may often be teaching things that simply aren’t relevant anymore. Especially in fast-moving subjects like IT and technology.Learning digital skills in a digital space from a qualit y online course provider or an online mba should keep you up to date with the most relevant skills and teaching methods.

How to not Accidentally Broadcast your Confidential Job Search: If you’re currently employed and conducting a confidential job search, its important to be careful with your job search-related activity.
